'A boss creates fear, a leader confidence. A boss fixes blame, a leader corrects mistakes. A boss knows all, a leader asks questions. A boss makes work drudgery, a leader makes it interesting. A boss is interested in himself or herself, a leader is interested in the group.'

Toynbee Associates offers Leadership Training for new leaders, established leaders and top talent.
The purpose of our training is to challenge those who supervise others to think about themselves as leaders, and the qualities they bring to their leadership. Additionally, to grow levels of initiative and responsibility, and to give them the tools and confidence to manage the complexities of heading a team in a constantly changing world.

We have three tiers of training:
Each type of leader has different needs which our programmes address. For example:
New Leaders
New leaders are still coming to terms with their responsibilities. They have the potential to be good leaders, but their leadership and management skills are still forming, and their confidence is still shaky. Our New Leader Programme looks at 'me as a leader'; the roles, responsibilities and skills of management (setting goals, setting standards, managing tasks and performance) and leadership (visioning, motivating and coaching the team and growing the potential of the team). Participants engage in self-enquiry, discussions, and 'realplay' (acting out real life situations not just standard scenarios). They begin to develop their self-awareness of the skills and qualities needed to be a good leader, and gain the confidence required to handle a range of different (and difficult) management situations.
Established Leaders
By now leaders have a sense of who they are as leaders, but they need to raise their game as others will look to them as role models. They are learning how to stay authentic in the midst of competing demands above and below. Their primary focus is developing their people, rather than managing tasks. Above all they have more personal power to change what's not working, and their people are looking to them to stand up and make a difference. Our Established Leader's Programme also explores 'me as a leader' but in more depth, as there is more self-awareness of strengths and blind spots. Leaders coach each other and share experiences of real and current business challenges. Leaders are challenged to explore the value they truly contribute to the company and the legacy they want to build. At this level, leaders may benefit from one of our Coaching Programmes to realise their team's true potential.
Top Talent
They may be leaders or SMEs (subject matter experts), but here the emphasis is on career development and challenging the individual to be their best. Good people seek constant challenges to stay engaged and grow - or they leave - to the detriment of their organisation. Our Top Talent Programme is designed to give specific and relevant feedback to participants on their strengths and weaknesses. This is achieved through a series of scenario and project-based assessments similar to the ones they might experience in their organisation . It reviews career goals and creates a personal development plan to help them to get the right skills, experience, contacts and knowledge. This may be through further training, but is more likely to take the form of coaching, rotations, cross-departmental projects or even attachments in another company at the same level.
Coaching is available as standard for all training programmes. In our experience this is the best way to ensure skills learned and ideas generated from the course are implemented, and that the company receives optimal Return on Investment (ROI) for their training pounds.
Add-ons are available to build skills and keep confidence high. These include:
